The Invitation
Confetti Chicks was fortunate to attend the recent launch of a specialised new treatment by Chelsea Clinic & Spa called Mona Lisa Touch. Along with my event goodie bag, came a special invitation to experience a Luxury Facial compliments of the spa.
The Venue
One can hardly imagine a more luxurious spa interior. The bold and opulent décor captivates you as soon as you enter through the wrought-iron gates, and as your eager eye follows the magnificent detail of gold and velvety soft accents, at the same time the dark grey walls and dim lighting ensure a soothing calm effect. While taking in all this splendour, my eye came to rest on a plump ginger cat perched atop the reception desk, a more than welcome sight to a crazy cat lover like myself! He returned my gaze as if to say ‘welcome to my lair’. Matisse is one of two happy felines who live on the premises.
The Experience
Matisse introduced me to my therapist, Sam. Well, he didn’t exactly, but let’s go with that, as that’s how it seemed to me. After changing into my crushed-velvet spa robe and sliding in between heated bed and covers, Sam proceeded with the analysis of my sensitive skin and proclaimed that it’s actually in very great shape. Prone to the odd bout of dryness, breakouts, and an aversion to almost anything on the market, I was relieved to hear that my current skincare regime is working for me, so we proceeded. A gentle cleanse was followed by warm steam (my favourite), then gentle exfoliation. It all felt wonderfully indulgent, and got even more relaxing once the shoulder and arm massage began. I warned Sam that I might drift off to sleep, and she didn’t seem to mind. A serum and then a masque were accompanied by more massage. Part of the luxury facial is the offer of either facial waxing or tinting so I opted for some brow tinting.

The Details
My treatment was a Chelsea Luxury Facial, 90 minutes of deep cleansing and moisturising, including massage and either a facial wax or tinting. It is an intense pamper session at R920.
